I love music. I love all music. I don't think there is a single genre from hip-hop to country that I don't dig. I'm also tired of the hatin'. I know that some of you are hatas. Maybe I can change your minds, or maybe I'm gonna have to shoot you nine times. In the spirit of togetherness, busting down the genre walls, and the stopping of the playa hatin’, I present mashes.
One of the wonders of the digital age is that anyone can be a DJ and anyone can mix (to varying degrees of success.) A mash is two or more disparate songs from often disparate genres poured into a digital blender and combined to form a frothy glass of musical delight. Here are a few of my favorite mashes:
The Eagles One of These Nights meets Kelly Clarkson’s seminal Since U Been Gone.
50 Cent Joins The Philharmonic. Our Curtis joins The Verve for the Many Man/Bittersweet Symphony.
How about Mayer and Alicia Keys' surreptitious duet on Daughters/If I Ain't Got You?
The Who spend the weekend with The Beasties.
Superstition gets Bootylicious.
If you like to hear mashup audio crashes may I suggest:
Owner of a Lonely Heart is introduced to Sir-Mix-A-Lot.
So this one time Axl was chillin at Snoop's place.
Come on and ride the Thunderstruck?
A warning: if you are easily offended and don't like it when, say, your CDs get out of alphabetical order or if your favorite station plays a "rap" song, you are not adventurous enough for mashes. You should probably stop buying CDs and start collecting Pat Boone albums.
Do you have any favorite mashes?
