Let's Go to Lunch

If you were here I’d say, “Let’s go to lunch!” You might say, “Bajio’s?” While I’m not a big fan, I’d say sure, because spending a lunch with you is worth it. I’d probably get there first (my work is closer) and wait for you in line. You’d show up looking great, as always. We’d laugh and make our decisions for food. Let’s sit outside under the umbrella, it’s warm but there is a nice breeze. We’d start chatting about whatever. Neither of us liked that movie. We both like that book. You recommend another and I put it on the list, yes I’ve been meaning to read it.

We sit for a few minutes in silence, scooping up more rice and beans, a little salsa. I think to myself, “This place is over priced. I should just get the rice and beans next time, it’s all I want to eat anyway.” We would talk about something that happened the other night to you. We’d dissect the meaning, hypothesizing different solutions. An agreeable compromise is decided.

You ask me about El Guille’s birth story and even though it’s not Sunday, I tell you. You marvel and act totally interested. I wonder how anyone could be interested in that story except for El Guille and his father. I tell the H out of it anyway. You laugh when I explain about my contractions being 1-2 minutes apart and me trying to straighten my hair before leaving for the hospital. That’s when I’ll casually mention that I wonder what the next baby will be like.

You nod, not quite catching my meaning. I lead a bit and say, “The next baby, who will arrive on the Ides of March.”

You gasp a little, because it’s true,

I’m having a baby!

Congratulations, Azucar. We're so pleased (but don't tell anyone, just keep this between us, okay?).

Now we know that you want rice & beans...but what does Guille want?

Dear Fiji-girl, you take that back! My last labor was so fast and this time I have to drive 20 minutes to get to the place--NO faster than last time please.

Thanks all, we're pretty excited about this. Of course all that excitement is tempered by feeling like crap ALL THE TIME.

I forgot about your last labor and how fast it really was... have you explored the possibility of a home birth? You might not have a choice! Ha Ha! No matter what this baby is lucky to be born into your adorable family.

No wonder you're always talking about how you feel like you want to throw up. If I had ever been pregnant, I might have picked up on that. Congratulation!

You only get a singular congratulation from me.

CARINA!!!!! Holy Cow. You made me a cake when you felt like crap (and yet you managed to look SO GOOD). That is amazing and I am so, so, so happy for you.

Hurrah for March babies!! You make number 23 pregnant friends for me.... I want to come to YOUR shower now....

Bek, it was SO hilarious! LVC called to invite ~j and I to the get together. ~j asked what she could bring and LVC said NOTHING, you're pregnant, just come, relax. She then asked me to do the cake, heehee. ~J and I had a good laugh about that. Happy to do it, however, for a great cause.

I'm so thrilled for you! I have a dream of announcing my pregnancy on my blog as well but don't know if my hubby will go for it. He wants to wait until we have everyone in the same room and have to some some cutesy little thing and see their faces.

But oh, how I would love to just announce it to everyone on the blog. In case someone in my family reads this, I did not say anything of the sort and don't tell anyone else because we are going to surprise you on Labor Day.

Good luck with the midwives - they're a crazy set but they gave me a fantastic all natural birth the last time. Have you tried hypno-birthing? It's divine.

az--
thought i had already posted my congrats and felicitations on here, because i'm thrilled for you....but apparently, i must've initially read this in some crazy moment and thought i'd congratulate you in a few minutes, but ended up cooking something, or packaging something, or looking at something else, or changing a poopy diaper, or....

either way, you're fetchin' awes. i'm so excited for the bambino.
