Self Portrait

Some people have expressed surprise that I do not look like my avatar photo.

This is most amusing to me.

If there is one thing you should know about the Internet, it is that nothing is what it seems; that the realities that people present are what they want you to see. Image is nothing but self-invention. Intimacy comes easily because each side sees what it wants and needs in the relationship--it's simple to mistake an instant bond for a deep bond. So beware of self-portraits, avatars, and the machinations of faux-intimacy, nothing replaces the verity of real life. Too much for a Monday?

If you're not going to have an avatar that acurately reflects the true self, then you might as well go with something as off-the-wall as your pic. There is bound to be an inner layer revealed by such faux posting.

Just adding more to your "Too much for Monday".

Guessing not every jet set reader is an SNL fan....

A friend of mine actually asked if that is what you look like in real life. I told her, she has curly hair (a bit more under control) and she's funny but that's about the extent of the middle of the Venn Diagram.

I fear for those who love cyberly. You are so right about only putting the best foot, or the best pictures forward. You can invent an entirely different self, which is why, I assume, it is so appealing.

I always chuckle at harsh and brash comments that I see on places like youtube and such. I picture some geeky 10 year old trying to be all tough. If his mommy saw those words he wouldn't see the light of day for 3 weeks!

Look at me I am so tough.

In case your friends (and stalkers) want a more accurate picture of your beauty, maybe they should check out this post.

I love Cherie O'Terry, and anyone who uses her as their avatar is my new best friend. :)

You're gorgeous! Self-invention, maybe...but lucky red hen's pics of your shower -fantastic!

Cheri is one of my faves. Besides being so funny, She also reminds me of my friend Melanee.

how do you get your avatar pic to post on your blog? Please pardon me, but I am still in my blogging infancy.

Very deep.

I like it.

It's good to be reminded of these truths you espouse. You are very wise, which I am confident is the real you. I will try not to be intimidated that you are more interesting than me. . . .

I think you are beautiful on the internet and in real life. And your wisdom surpasses your years. I love learning from you! I love hearing and reading what you have to offer whether it's Monday or any other day of the week!

Welcome to all my new best friends!

I know, that was a bit self-important; it seemed like a good idea in the wee hours of the morning. I thought I wanted to be your Michelle Pfeiffer.

My husband actually made a yahoo avatar that looks exactly like him, it's creepy. Because he got it to look all irritated, and I'm pretty sure that's his default setting. Regardless, the real you is all kinds of hotness, but the O'Terri you is just enough to give me the giggles I so desperately need. Bless your crackitycrackedness!

Carina,

I must also second the notion that pictures don't do you justice. Even the awesome ones from LRH.. you have something about you that jumps out in real life.

I love what you said about not mistaking instant bond for intimacy. That is great. I have had the pleasure to meeting blog friends in real life and have strted on the road to real bond with some of them.... Lucky me.

That IS Melanee.... holy cow. I miss her

This picture reminds me of the Meadows Museum in Dallas. It's a tiny museum dedicated to Spanish art and each one is a true treasure. You, young lady, are one of those "glowing" pregnant people.

This pic doesn't give your darling hair justice. Those of you who don't know her, Azucar has the cutest hair in the world. Ringlets I tell you, ringlets.
