Hey, do you remember that weird lady at the pharmacy that Other Half and I met a couple weeks ago? She wanted to touch my baby and I was totally creeped out? Because who in their right mind tries to touch babies when they’re in line at the pharmacy, sick, and in need of medication?

She was one of those people who start talking to you about every intimate detail of their life even though they just met you. The kind of person where you do a lot of closed mouth mmmm-ing, while moving your eyebrows up and down trying to convey both sympathy and all the social cues to leave you the H alone?

Well, we went to a family reunion on Saturday and SHE WAS THERE.

I said to OH, "Uhm, that looks like that crazy lady."

OH, "It kind of does."

She walked around and talked to people as we stealthily observed her.
"It's totally HER," I said.
She went to my mom, who was holding Proximo, and just gushed over the baby. THAT sealed the deal.

So then I told the story of our first encounter at the Rite-Aid to my brother and two cousins. We couldn't figure out who she was.

It turns out that she's the adopted child of one of my great-uncle's children.

The whole thing was strange. I'm just glad that neither of us was curt or mean to her at the Rite-Aid that night.

She didn't recognize us or the baby.

I wonder if she's touched.

Wow. I think something like that happened to me before--only I kind of had road rage at someone who was actually on their way to church--just like me.

Totally scary. BUT this happens all of the time when it comes to Utah family reunions... The magic cocktail of prolific procreation and past polygamy will get you EVERY TIME.... Better this than finding out the first boy who ever tried to touch your boobs was your cousin... maybe? I think I've said too much.... Me go home now.

Of course she was!

Remember that creepy book release party I attended in recent past? I was standing in line to get my number (of course it was two torturous hours after I had arrived--that's what I get for asking upon my arrival what we were supposed to do and being told to go play stupid games instead of being told to take a number) and I thought I recognized the girl in front of me. I peeked over her shoulder to look at her reservation and saw that it was indeed my cousin's daughter. And her sister. Waiting at midnight to buy the vampire book.

At least she didn't have fake blood dripping from her jugular.

Oh and ask me how much I wish I were curled up in that chair right now with that Jasper Fforde book in my hands.

You'd think that might be the case, but this branch of the family has no pliggys and minimal procreation! It's a small family. This whole thing might explain why Crazy Lady looked familiar. Usually, however, if I run into familiar crazy people I just assume I met them at some point while working retail because OH BOY I've met some crazies.

Someday I really hope that The Jolly Porter writes a story about Crazy Cathy.

Someday I really hope you write about your cousin feeling you up. But not really. But kind of.
