Justin Was Right, What Goes Around...

Last month my mom slipped in her kitchen while cleaning and broke her ankle. It was a pretty serious break requiring surgery, insertion of metal pins and plates, and a few months of recovering ahead. I could not relate. First of all, cleaning the kitchen? Second, I’ve never broken a bone in my life. Not when I was playing soccer, thought I loved hiking and mountain biking, or went out dancing in sky-high heels.

A week later my mom gasped in horror (she does that a lot) when I walked in balancing Proximo on my hip while sporting my new Steven spectator four inch pumps. She pointed to her ankle and said, “You’ll break your ankle someday!” I laughed in her face. Wait, no, first I said, “Were you wearing heels when you broke your ankle? No, you weren’t! Maybe you wouldn’t have broken your ankle if you’d been wearing heels.” Then I laughed. Then I switched back to speaking English.

Karma is a bitch.

This morning, in an attempt to run fast to my room to grab a shirt while Proximo was in the tub (my room is 3 steps from the tub, I counted once) and yet return before he’d drowned himself, I shut the bathroom door on my toes.

Hey, did you know that breaking your toe hurts? It totally does.

I thought at first that I’d just stubbed it and tried to shake it off. That really didn’t work. For a few minutes I tried to move it, tried to put on some socks, thought about shoes, and slowly came to the realization that the sharp pain was overwhelming any chance of it being just a stub. I crawled on my hands and knees to my phone, begged LaQuina to come get the baby, switch me cars so I could drive an automatic, and drove myself to Urgent Care.

Fractured left pinky toe, buddy tape, post-op shoe for 2-3 weeks.

Mostly injured: my pride.

P.S. The doctor tried to give me Lortab. What in the? An Advil will be fine, dude. Pushers...

1. If you had been wearing heels you would not have broken it.

2. I don't think anyone without an abuela understands how to make the proper gasp of horror. It is almost indescribable.

3. Want me to send you some crocs?

So, you have Lortab you're not using?

Just kidding.

Sorry about your pride and the pinky.

Ooh...Ouch! That hurts just reading about it. Feet are so sensitive, let alone a broken toe.

When I was in high school it seemed everytime I would say something mean I would stub my toe. I used to swear there was a correlation. Turned out I was just a clutz.

I feel your pain! Breaking your toe sucks.

Ouch. Except I'm kind of thinking that the Lortab would have helped deal with the injured pride. Except then you'd have to explain everything you did in your drug-induced state of incoherency.

Broken toes hurt. This I know from experience. Only pain worse is the injured pride - sorry about that.

the toe does hurt, me and a cinderblock had a meeting a few years ago.

That Justin SURE DOES know what he's talking about, boy I love him.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I do want you to know that as soon as it said broken toe, my first thought was,

"HOW will she wear one of those awful foam, velcro strap shoes???"--it's the kind Matt was wearing when he proposed to me!

I'm sure you will balance well with an awesome heel on the other foot right??

I'm so sorry... I broke a toe when I walked to quickly and my toe connected with my hubby's heel. They are that easy to break...

I just felt phantom toe pains for you. Once on a vacation to California, I stubbed my big toe and the nail broke all the way to middle. Oh, man. I'm still cringing at the pain. I think I'd rather have the broken toe.

I have two toes aching in sympathy with yours right now. The memories are in the bones.

OUCH. Toe stubbing is painful enough...toe breaking must be hell. Speedy recovery!

I went through a phase where I was breaking tows left right and center. I just buddy taped them myself..... they hurt a LOT but you only really miss them if it is your Big Tow or the baby one, those throw off your balance. Who knew?

Sorry...hope it gets better soon..
