Thanks to your considerable research and efforts, Miss Musing and her blog were removed from Blogger for violating the terms of service agreement. Special thanks to Velveteen Mind for her gumption. Miss Musing's twitter account (@missmusing) has also been deleted.
My favorite plagiarized post was the one where Miss Musing wrote about a girl's night out that just so happened to be my birthday celebration two years ago in Park City. I have to tell you, that one made me laugh and laugh. (In case you've arrived here wondering what happened to Miss Musing's blog, you can read about it here.) I got to read several of her plagiarized posts by subscribing to her blog feed (heads up, once you've published an entry, the feed doesn't go away even if you delete the post. That's how I've read even more plagiarized posts--proving that this was not an isolated mistake, but a pattern of thievery.) How about her Prompt Me post and I quote,
"Ignoring promptings has proven to be a sublime survival tactic"which was posted on 2/13/2009 and is really this post? The post she titled "That Sinking Feeling" 2/20/2009 is really this one called Sink Me.
I hope she takes this lesson and makes better choices going forward, including leaving Scarlet Pimpernel references intact.
In honor of Miss Musing and her style of blogging, I'd like to plagiarize my friend La Yen's blog by writing about the daughter I don't have and changing a few details to make it seem like I wrote it:
So, I made Jooj a dress. I have never made a dress before. It is quite unfortunate (the dress, not the fact that it has never been made.) I, Azucar, have made many dresses before and the dress I pretend made for Jooj is really awesome.
During the dress debacle I thought about the whole "serious scholarly people who blog" vs. "me." And I think that there are a few reasons why my blog is neither profound nor intelligent nor free from references to poop:
1. Days of Our Lives. I am pretty sure Ayn Rand didn't watch the soaps. She was too busy being smart and philosophical. But wouldn't Anthem be better if it had a villian who wore an eye patch or a heroine who always had on just too much lipgloss? Yes it would have been.
2. I don't know that many words.
The end. OR IS IT?

All I need now is a flasher or a stalker and I can say I have finally arrived.
And you totally made a cute dress.
wv: kotings. Like Kotex. But in the present progressive.
Also, your house is REALLY messy. I can't believe you put a picture up of it.
I just think people shouldn't feel stressed about how perfect some bloggers appear, right? This is just my attempt to keep it real, yo.
Now I know I can never lift your wedding cake bird nest photos and say I made them without consequences. I will stop thinking about it immediatelyish.
I think it's rad your post enabled that poser's blog to get deleted. Hurrah for proactive people.
Did La Yen take her shirt off yet?
I'm just askin.'
You should sponsor a plagiarism awareness day. Like everyone plagiarizes a blog and pretends like nothing is wrong.
I can't tell you how awesome it is that this idiot's blog was deleted. Magical things can happen in blog world. Like helping the Nielsons and murdering blogs. It all strengthens my testimony of the power of the blog world.
Oh to be a fly on the wall at her house.
also
one time yen wrote a post about how her brother played in the superbowl
and i thought man
what a small world!
SO DID MINE.
weird.
and this is how i knew we were brothers (with lady parts instead) from another mother.
except i think i just implied that we are hermaphrodites
my bad
awesome, so awesome. you should write an essay on this. and then, you know. bring it next Saturday.
I love, love, LOVE that the plagiarizer has been taken down. I stewed all day about this (yesterday) but didn't have quite the tenacious spirit that you guys all had.
Bravo.
Wow! How did I miss all that hoop-la? Crazy people plagiarize THE C Jane. Crazy.
Bravo Azucar! I love catching my students plagiarizing. Here's a website that is helpful: www.turnitin.com.
Seriously, thank you. How frakken irritating. Now I can sleep tonight.
WOOT!
hurray! go team c jane!
It still boggles my mind how someone could do this, to someone so awesome and sweet like C Jane. What goes through your mind?
Whatev...but yay for you.
I mean, if she'd done this in a magazine, it would be over. I think the same standards would apply.
Woot!! Woot!
I went over on that plagiarizers blog and left a nasty note, but it feels even better that she got kicked in her little 20ish year old butt!
You go, girl.
And I liked what cookie said---heh, heh---lets do it!
WOW~! Way to get her! What was she thinking copying one of the internet's most loved bloggers!?!?! Gosh, Some people's kids... rude, wrong AND S.T.U.P.I.D.
I received an email this morning telling me I should stay out of c jane's business. Um, wow.
I think it's worth pointing out that I took up the call against Miss Musing because she was plagiarizing me in two of her posts.
That was personal. And very much my business. I never mentioned c jane.
Now then, back to the "amens" that this just isn't right and something we can't stand for, on behalf of us all!
Excellent point, Velveteen, one that I don't think I clarified.
Cjane wasn't the only blogger ripped off. Onnuh found several examples of plagiarized bloggers and we tried to contact them all. While as far as I know Miss Musing stole the most from cjane, she was clearly not the only blogger affected.
Incredible. How can anyone believe that they can actually get away with something like that.
This whole this is SO crazy. Way to go. I'm also so glad you took the screen shots so we could all see it! Madness.
That is crazy! Why on earth would you copy the most popular blogger's posts? She must be on something thinking that she wouldn't get caught.
Thanks for sharing with us.
dude..I totally used to read that blog and KNEW I had seen that post somewhere else. How lame is that to copy someone else's life?!
Plagiarism makes me so sick. Good job Azucar, and everyone that helped you to take this blogger offline. Hopefully, it will also serve as a lesson to any other plagiarizers out there.
Oh my word. This is unbelievable, and so lame! Glad these people were caught. But bummed out that I just found out about it because it would have been interesting to read her blog.
p.s. I love the Scarlett Pimpernel!
I still can't grasp the concept as to why one would want to use someone else's life as their own and steal their posts?
My day was made when I saw that her blog had been deleted.
I just don't get it...
Kudos to you for not letting it slide!
you mentioned you found someone using your posts as well...anything happening with that?
We're working on it, Erica.
I've notified the party and hopefully we can resolve the situation with a clean slate going forward.
I think this person, for a variety of reasons, just needs a shot across the bow, not aggressive boarding.
I love analogies.
Infuriating. Thanks for exposing the crazy copy cat. It was deliciously gratifying to see her outed.
This is my first time on your blog. It's great! I came over from cjane (I'm a lurker there. I should comment one of these days) and found this topic very interesting. I'm glad something was done about it. Oh, yeah! I love the Scarlett Pimpernell! :)
Hooray for you! I hope the taste of a revoked book deal lingers for a long, long time. How stupid do you have to be to copy cjane, of all people? Wouldn't it have taken less time to just write her own stuff?
I am honored to know you, Azucar! I absolutely adore c jane's posts and am literally appalled anyone would even think for a second they could copy her writing and get away with it.
Though I am no c jane I have had a few of my posts from Boutique Cafe copied word for word and posted elsewhere. It took a lot of work but that blog is no longer around! ;) Hope to see you soon, babe!
Nice work guys! I am a regular at cjane and can't believe that anyone would even think they could get away with plagarising on the internet! Haven't they heard of search engines? The more I learn about the internet and the blogosphere, the more I realise that it is a teeny-tiny place (as opposed to a huge world-wide-web!) where we pretty much all know each other. (Sort of) Nice to know we are looking out for each other too!
You just gave me a great idea.
I'm going to plagiarize you plagiarizing LaYen. Thank you.
WV: wherrat
On my blog, of course.
No, not really.
OMG ... I totally read miss musing's blog and had no clue it was plagarized. that's ridiculous. oh my lord. i am so sorry.
well, the bright side is point one for non-plaigarism, and point two i found a new blog that i probably already love!
http://fab.typepad.com
Woa, that's insane. I've been plagiarized before and it is awful!!
HOLY SHIT!!! i can't believe she wasn't real. i talked to her multiple times through email and for many months on our blogs and she always seemed so sweet. i can't believe it was all a lie....
Not surprising honestly. She completely stole one of my blog designs a few months ago and used it on her blog. When confronted, she said she was at the airport and couldn't change it right away, but then 2 minutes later, her blog was changed.. it was very strange. I wrote about copyright to blogger, about her blog, but she apologized and said she was sorry and it won't happen again. I should have gone through with it and had her blog deleted then.
Sheesh.
Wow! I have been reading Miss Musing for a few months and was always impressed by how positive she always was. I am shocked and disgusted to find out that she did this.
On the bright side, now I've found you and C Jane. Guess I already know I'll like your blogs!
How sad for all the posers that their attempts at lifting Courtney's writing completely loses it's charm in the translation.
Failing at plagiarism, now that's pathetic.
Kudos to you Azucar for calling them out; we all gotta watch out for each other-
word verif:medub As in youdub, wedub, hedubs
Yeah, is is weird to be a little jealous of your being robbed?
Plus, cute dress. Is is plagiarism if I make the dress for my kid? (Is just an ethical question. Am not going to really sew.)
Is not plagiarism. Is Butterick pattern something or other.
c. jane reader here.
Still appalled over this.
You are awesome. Positively awesome.
first of all, you're really funny and even though this whole situation is pathetic you're making me laugh. secondly, thank you for taking a stand and making this silly person and her blog go away.
Dang! I missed the whole thing. I just popped in over at cjane's to read her latest, and it was the first time I'd even heard of Miss Musing. Wish I had been clued in before it was all deleted ;-) Good job!!!
I remember this same thing happening to Sue. What I loved about her plagiarizer lady, was that she had everything on her site copyrighted :D
So, my husband is being very un-Mr. Nielson-like and I am in a pissy mood so I retreated to the computer and had the best laugh all week (it's only Tues thankfully)! No, I did not laugh at all the plagarism crap... although I also have my large white panties in a bunch...
I laughed so hard at La Yen and Jenny, and Kalli Ko's exchange. I totally will add parts to make myself part of the herm-aphrodite club. Seeing as I already look like a Boticelli painting I don't have far to go. I can take off my shirt too. Mr. Sensative would like that. Hilarious.
So sorry all those who got hosed.
i am shocked....now im all paranoid and want to find someone stealing my stuff....i know someone has to be since my posts are soo amazing!! lol kidding....i stopped in from erin uncensored....and i like you...i think ill stick around....
How weird. I subscribed to her blog for a short while, but unsubscribed after a while because something seemed uneven about her writing. I had noticed that she seemed to have the exact same blog design as another blogger who paid for their blog template (which seemed weird), but I just assumed I didn't know the full story. So odd and upsetting.
Wow, I had no idea. Thanks for outing her. I was actually one of her followers! BTW, I'm a fellow Utah blogger. Nice to meet you!
this vigilante-ism (sp?) leaves me breathless. you are such an asskicker!
this whole thing is just beyond creepy. i was a reader of miss musing's blog, and this whole thing leaves me with such a gross feeling inside.
thanks for making us all aware of this.
Wow. I use to read Miss Musings blog and this is just beyond weird. Makes one wonder who really was behind that blog. Ick.
I'm probably reiterating what others have said, but honestly, thank you so much for letting us know.
Soooo sad to hear about Miss Musing. I liked her blog and it was all lies! Why would someone do that? :(
That's just not cool, hope she's in Blogjail. I deleted her comments from my blog...they were probably someone else's anyway.
Azucar has the POWER!!!
I can't figure out the mentality of someone who would do this kind of thing. Aside from the whole only-evil-people-steal thing, wouldn't it take more effort to stalk blogs, steal posts, and then tweak them than to just write your own stuff?
Way to uncover the mess and fight the good fight.
That is just hilarious!!!
I would just LOOOVE to see a screenshot of a copy post, since it has been deleted and all :)
Great job! Since missmusing lied about everything else maybe "she" is really a "he" How funny would that be if we found out it was a guy posing as a girl?
Hee-Hee.
Word Verification: Nosheat: As in "We take No sheat from liars.
Little Lovables, I do have a couple of screenshots up of the posts she plagiarized me on, grabbed because I knew she would ditch.
http://bit.ly/cy31H
I think Azucar had the sense to subscribe to her feed beforehand, so she has the long-term evidence, though.
people looking for the quick fix
