It Just Came Out of My Mouth

Saturday night the kids were a nightmare.

They should have gone to bed earlier, but they didn't. They shouldn't have splashed a Niagara out of the tub, but they did. I was so frustrated with them as I wrestled them onto the bathmat that I didn't know what else to do, so I started singing.

I started singing Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.

The kids looked at me funny as I sang over their screams and squeals. Blue skies from pain. I was surprised I remembered all the words.

And you know?

I felt a lot better.

Good for you. I have a hard time at night (I am a morning person) and often loose my temper. But I will try singing next time and see if it does the trick.

Thanks doll,

Pink Floyd is a cure all for everything!

I kind of have a crush on you...

I've gotten in the tub (fully clothed) with the kid before. it seems to shock her into compliance.

Oh that's awesome. I like the shock factor. Call it shock parenting or something. Make a movement.

I sing "blue skies" to calm the troubled waters. Seems better than screaming and tearing out clumps of my hair.

I sing, "Nobody but nobodyyyy is gonna rain on myyyy para-a-ade!!!"

Yeah. Pink Floyd is always what comes out of my mouth in those frustrating bathtime dramas. Always.

Two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl--I sing that same song. It's easy to remember the lyrics when you are at your wit's end, because they are so bleak.

Anne-Marie, I KNOW. I wonder what recess of my subconscious mind that song crawled out of (probably the place where my sophomore self went to hang out after she was done with homeroom.)

Mm-hmmm. Music therapy. Nothin' like it.

I was belting out "she's leaving home" by the beatles the other day,. It only verifies their belief that I'm barking mad...

That's a great song. And a great idea. Why is it that my patience is cut in half at bedtime?

Can't say that would have been my first pick, but I love it [that you sang it, that is]. I do like the song as well.

The "I Hate Kids" song can work, too.

I love this. Sometimes all you can do is sing to keep your cool. And when it's unexpected it can really break the tension.

For me, it's usually hair ballads. I don't know why.
