Great Escape

1. If you could escape to anywhere in the world where would it be?

This time of year with the fire smoke in the air and rain on the way feels just like the festival time in Spain. Send me straight to the northern Spanish coast, please.

2. What song do you play when you are by yourself in the car?

I like how you think I've got a way to play a song in my car. I don't. Unless, of course, you mean a song on a tape. If I get to pick with my iPod, I'm rocking toMGMT's Time to Pretend.

3. If you had a night to yourself, and money was no object, what would you do?
Fly to New York for a night at a chic hotel. I'd see shows, hit the Angelica, dine at Jean Georges or at one of Alain Ducasse's places, buy out Prada, private show at DVF, scoop up a dozen Manolos, andcome home with at least one piece of new art.

4. What is your guilty pleasure?

My life is a guilty pleasure.

5. What is the farthest place you have traveled away from your home?

Prague, Czech Republic, only it was Czechoslovakia back then. By the way, this is an accurate statement, I actually looked up several cities to determine the exact distance to make sure I reported the farthest place. Yes, I'm that nerdy.

6. Last book that you couldn't put down?

The Historian.

7. When you want to escape into another time, what movie do you watch?

Somewhere In Time. Just kidding.

Casino, The Aviator, or Dangerous Liaisons.

8. My favorite local escape?

Park City for the evening. I love how it's always cooler up in the mountains.

9. How do you escape on a budget?

Netflix streaming video (North & South, anyone?) and a locked room.

10. Best food you've ever had while on vacation.

A tiny seafood dive near Monterrey, California off the 101. Fresh steamed clams with a crusty baguette.

Dinner on expense account in Seattle, surrounded by friends, plates of fresh seafood, olives and sardines, a dozen courses.

Most of my Vegas vacation: dinner at Mon Ami Gabi, Mesa Grill, or breakfast from LeNotre's.

I've had a lot of good food on vacation.

This is contest entry for those crazy folks at TodaysMama and Cricut. Be sure to check out Cricut's cool new cartridges and the chance at $30,000 in travel for you and your friends at The Great Gypsy Escape!

Totally nerdy thing to mention, but I found out later that my husband was on his mission in Czechoslovakia while you were there. He was in the very first group called over after the iron curtain fell.

People try to correct me when I say where he went on his mission. It's the Czech Republic now, but no, it WAS Czechoslovakia then.

Too bad he was unaware of the choir and orchestra coming. That would have been kinda cool. (Don't know if if was in Prague at the time, though.)

The last time I went the curtain had yet to fall, 1988. Ask me sometime about being detained at the border!

were you ever detained at the border?

(ask me sometime about my sister, who got detained at the canadian border. hint: it was the year elizabeth smart was kidnapped, and my sister was a 14 year old blonde, blue eyed girl with a roundish face....guess you don't have to ask now.)

anyway, i logged on to say that somewhere in time still freaks me out. terrible, terrible film.

I want to know the name of that dive in Monterey.
