I'm Everywhere, Including The Hospital!

Today is my gestational diabetes test. I volunteered to do the 3 hour fasting test instead of the 1 hour take and drink test. I fail the 1 hour test every time, so it's not worth having to drink that horrific concoction twice when I can drink it once and be super uncomfortable just once. So I'm hanging at the hospital where, when I asked the front desk about wireless access, they helpfully pointed me to a wall plug.

(Here's how you do the test, in case you're interested: You don't eat for 10-12 hours. Go to the hospital, they take a blood sample. They give you this glucose drink that tastes like soda, but 3 times as sweet and flat. It is awful. You wander around for an hour, they take more blood. You sit and wait for an hour, they take more blood. You do NOT drive, because you will probably pass out, you sit down and wait for another hour, and they'll take more blood. If you're lucky, your body processes the glucose at the right rate and you are not diabetic.)

In the meantime, I'm not just at the hospital!

I'm surprised they let you walk around. Both the labs I've been to make you sit there in those uncomfortable ass chairs for three hours. I had to do the test early this time because I have insulin resistance. I get to do the 3 hour again at the regular time. Go me!

I hope yours comes back normal!

I hate this test with a passion. I never pass the first blood test, and in fact, with my last pregnancy I failed the second blood test. They didn't even bother doing the third hour because I was high for the first two, therefore bestowing upon me the title of gestational diabetic.

The strict limited carb diet I went on was absolute utter TORTURE.

Here's hoping you pass.

(my drink was always orange. Looks like they've gone and ruined lemon lime too.)

I'm still waiting to find out the results of mine. The lab lost the results to the first test I took (and then they tried to blame it on me by saying that I hadn't stuck around for the full hour... which I absolutely did). So I had to go back for a 2nd 1-hour test. Hopefully I'll have passed and won't have to return bc all that drink makes me want to do is vomit!

I have had to do the 3 hour test with 2 out of the 4 pregnancies. It really is horrible! I just found out that I'm pregnant again and I am not looking forward to that horrible drink and all the blood draws. Good luck, I hope your results are good ones.

It's been 10 hours and just thinking of the drink makes me want to hork.

Yes, I said "hork."

I've always thought it tasted like concentrated fruit loop juice.

I just found out I have to do this test, even though I passed the 1 hour test. Apparently I have twice as much fluid as normal and that can be linked to gest. diabetes. I do daycare during the day and they are refusing to let me do it on a Saturday even though they are open. So I have to clear an entire morning and find sub care for 4 children, yay! I already hate this test and I haven't even done it yet!!

I didn't think it was that bad. But anything seems like a walk in the park after a 6 hr. glucose test, especially when they take blood every hour of the six. NOW THAT was terrible.

Oh man, it's been THREE YEARS and just looking at that drink makes me wanna hork. That is why I was so deliriously happy with the way my midwife did my test. I'll take an Odwalla drink over that crazy flat aspirin soda any day of the week.

Though, I'm not sure what she would have had me drink for a 3 hour test. I'm lucky that I've never failed the 1 hour before.

For some reason, my super fit, super thin, Hikes 10 Miles a Day, Only Eats Organic Everything friend also failed her 1 hour test, which shocked the crap out of me. The 3 hour came out fine, but it makes me wonder HOW that was possible.

My blood sugar goes into a coma area at the end of this test. I find it hard to even swallow.
Not my fav.
New guidelines though, they're putting people on the gestational diabetes diet, even if you just fail one.
That was me.
Stupid.
