I concur! And that is why I live where I live too! I have a 15 minute radius though. I can get to my most frequent destinations in around five minutes, but the kids' school is 15 minutes away. When we lived in Atlanta, same thing.

I was betching in my head about this very thing when I was making the 50 mile drive out of my driveway (only a slight exaggeration) to drive the 10 miles to the grocery store.

But....now that I'm out here in the sticks? I wouldn't trade it for anything (on most days).

Totally have a radius. Anywhere in a 10 minute walk is ok, further and it rarely sees my face. We're even switching wards because ours is outside of our radius(new building built closer to us and we are in a boundary no-mans land. The Stake President doesn't even know where we are supposed to be). The car radius is about the same amount of time because one child is very vocal about his great disdain for being strapped into a car seat.

My issue is more about location. I'm a city girl. I really dislike the burbs. Therefore I'm about 10 minutes from downtown. From there, everything is about 15 minutes. This is due in part, because all the non-neighborhood roads in my freaking town are 30 mph, including the gigantic 4 lane roads.

I do pay a slight price because of my finickiness...expensive housing.

I used to have a smaller radius when I lived in Provo.

I have learned to love the drives because really, it's gorgeous here. I have an hour radius now. An hour gets me to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Lancaster. My best friend out here lives 45 minutes away and we trade off and drive to eachother's houses weekly.

If I had a 10 minute radius I would have a grocery store, burger king and a gas station.

In the east though, if I upped my radius to three hours I could get to New York City or DC. That's the cool thing. But ask me how often we go to those places --- 2-3 times a year. shame on me. I know that I will kick myself later when we move.

I used to have a radius. Not anymore, not where I live. The roads make no sense, there's only 3 that go "through" town, and when I say "through" I mean they circle around everywhere without intersecting. It's SO DUMB.

I have something more along the lines of a ten-month radius. There's usually a month or so each winter when it's just too cold to coax me out, and a few weeks each summer when I want to die if I step into the heat, so I don't if I can help it. I'm not hung up on mileage, though I do typically favor what's within walking/biking distance.

Love to drive. The further the better. Unless kid...

This week we are goign to be in bay area traffic uh vey.

I WANT a radius, they are building a library, rec center, elem. school IN MY BACKYARD (kid you not), a Costco will be less than 5 mins away and Harmons 2 of them are less than 5 mins away. We soon are getting chickens and maybe a goat for milk.

And I will never ever drive out of my 5 min radius...

...and I will finally be in heaven.

library=7 min walk,
grocery=13 min walk or 3 min drive,
pharmacy=ditto,
hardware store=15 min walk
dentist=12 min walk
Trader Joe's=4 min drive (neener neener)
I can go on. There's great pleasure in living in a walking community.

Used to live in the Bay Area... commute time 1-2 hours... it sucked.

Then we moved to the sac foothill area - I don't go more than 2-3 exits from where I live... because I can. Also... I don't deliver food to people further out of my radius... because I have limits. So if you want food... move into my neighborhood.

I complain about this to Paul all the time. Like how pissed I am that I live more than 10 min from Target now, or how the mall sucks up here and isn't worth driving for. If it was good, I'd drive, but it's not, so I complain. I miss my old house, where Target was but 5 minutes, the gym just a block, the gas station with the drive through window 2 minutes away. I had life so good back then...

That is totally me too--which is why we live in central Orem. And my husband works from home. He's never really had a 'commute' and I've tried to avoid it too. We even spent three years in a crappy apartment because it was across the street from his job.

Sadly all our family members live farther away than my radius, and my MIL doesn't drive, so we end up driving long distances more than I'd like to. Thankfully we can walk to church and walk my daughter to school, and Target/Costco/mall/most everything else is within a five or ten-minute drive.

Also, even though I generally hate driving I love road trips. I'd rather go to Vegas than drive down to the Provo mall.

I'm so glad it isn't just me! Everything I "need" is less than 15 mins. away- anything beyond that is officially a "trip" and I have to prepare accordingly. I never see anyone who lives outside of this radius... unless they come to me.

I was so laughing at this post! In a good way! Until last year, most of my working years have been spent with a hour commute to work each way, and at least a 15 minute drive to a real store. I lived in Minnesota though for 3 years, and my tolerance for driving dwindled. I say this because my best friend had a 15 minute radius, and she rubbed off on me. Now I have a 20 minute commute each way, and I complain bitterly about having to drive 25 minutes each way to the barn, and I am really into my horse and I still complain!

Nope. Ten miles for me too. Ask any of my friends...
