A long time ago I shared how I love to play the "Guess Who Got Famous" game while watching TV shows. It's important that you are paying attention to the TV and making the most of your viewing. There could be a quiz. I could be calling you right now--except the call is coming from inside the house!
I have another variation on the Famous Game that I also think is fun. It's called "Who's Knocked Up." This is the game where you watch TV shows and try to spot if someone is pregnant on the show.
Now, it wouldn't be very interesting if it was just spot the ridiculously skinny fake preggo chick. I hate that game: it's obvious and stupid. Jennifer Aniston's Rachel? Yeah, RIGHT. I swear her belly was the size of half a volleyball. I nearly broke my TV when she was "pregnant."
It's a whole lot more fun when the producers are trying to hide the pregnancy from the viewing public. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Seinfeld's Elaine, is really fun to spot. She was pregnant twice on the show. Phylicia Rashad was pregnant on the Cosby Show.
This game is also tricky. There have been times when I mistakenly identified both Drew Carey and Kevin James as expecting new bundles of joy. My bad guys! (Maybe lay off the cheese fries?)
What other preggos have you spotted trying to keep it on the down low?
The total giveaway? An actress holding paperbags from a grocery store in front of her.
What else do you look for?

I think they got pretty creative with Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP) in Sex in the City (SITC. But it's not like I actually watch that show because I am too righteous.
P.S. I hope Geo doesn't ever cover up her miracle belly!
All I can say about the news is that that is the biggest and loudest "Wahoo!" I've let fly in a very long time.
As for the other: This isn't TV, but I really love anything that does not take itself too seriously. Hence I really got a kick out of the non-pregnant Tess playing--and playing badly no less--the pregnant Julia Roberts in Oceans 12.
I totally knew that Hasselbeck was preg on the view.
I haven't been able to stop smiling since I heard G's news. Life is Beautiful.
Jennifer Garner that last horrible season of Alias. I'm still so bitter that J.J. Abrams sucks so hard that he can't end an awesome show on an awesome note because he'd bailed two seasons earlier. A-hole!
Cover up? It's never worked with my hips, who should I try with my belly? I'm more of a mind to explore the wonderful world of Haramaki. Accentuate the positive, y'know.
Thanks for all nods, hopes, wahoos, and congrats. My lentil and I are blushingly gratified.
That is, WHY should I try, not WHO! Ha!
Goodnight.
Hooray for Geo!!
The way they dealt with Jane Leeve (Daphne) on Frasier drove me a little crazy. They did a whole plot line about how she was compulsively overeating. It was dumb. When Niles proposed to her on the rooftop, she had this scarfy-wrappy thing that she held in strange ways to try and hide her belly, but there were some profile shots where she looked every bit nine-months pregnant.
One cute, inside joke thing - when Leeves was absent from a few episodes because she was having her baby, Niles tells someone that Daphne has lost "nine pounds, 10 ounces" - the exact weight of Leeve's new arrival.
You can't tell I love Frasier, can you?
Kristin Davis from Sex and the City plays Jerry's girlfriend from my all time favorite Seinfeld episode, where Kramer adopts a highway, George drops his keychain in a manhole, Elaine lives in a janitor's closet to get chinese takeout, and Jerry knocks his girlfriends toothbrush into the toilet.
And we cannot forget good ol' Courtney Cox as Alex Keaton's girlfriend. Sha-na-na-na.
And the pregnancy game—did you ever see Debra Messing on Will & Grace when she was pregnant? She got pretty big, compared to her teeny tiny hollywood frame, that no amount of pillows could hide.
Carrie on King of Queens hid behind the kitchen counter, bags of groceries, & the stair case for months.
But unfortunately (because I would've tried), you can't hide your swollen nose & eyes behind a bag, the counter, or stair case!
Amy
Leeve & Messing come to mind. I still remember Messing hiding behind a large sun hat, newspaper and also throw pillow. That was a tad ridiculous.
I am so happy about the newest preggo news!
Oh, yeah! Messing... They also tried to cover that up by making a bunch of fat jokes and making her eat a ton on camera.
I thin Salma Hayek is doing a really good job.
I loved Messing it was nice to see some meat on hre finally! I hated those low cleavage shots where you saw her rib cage! I especially appreciated that fact that the weight remained for a little while after she had the baby!
Carie on King of Queens was great as well..congratulations to your friend...
so what does it mean when your hubby is bugging you to have baby #4 and you don't really want to?
How bout Bree (Marcia Cross) on Desperate Housewives when she was having twins? They just did face-shots, and bless her because her face got big like mine does.
About a month ago my nephew asked curiously "are you pregnant? Because you look like it?"
um no, but I'm going to rock myself in the corner and have a good cry now. You 6 year old self esteem and emotional psyche destroyer.
I too enjoyed the Sex and the City cover-up, as well as the cover-up/overeating job they tried to do on Will and Grace. And the Marcia Cross one just made me laugh.
That is a great game. It is one of the only times that we are required to "suspend our disbelief" with TV....
That is great news about Geo.. I don't know her well, I have met her at a few blog dinners, but I read her blog all the time. I am so thrilled for her (I didn't know they were struggling with that issue).
Want more prego news? We can break it here on this blog (since I don't know when I will get back to blogging in the near future, can someone tell me how to password protect my blog?). There is another infertile who is having a baby.... ME!!!!!!!
It's true. I hate that I am one of the statistics now (the kind where people go...I know someone who adopted and then got pregnant) but we are almost through the first trimester and it has a heartbeat and everything.
Go figure. Life IS strange
Ok, that was funny. Julian is my Manny and apparently he was blogging before I was... I couldn't stop the comment, so NO, Julian the male nanny isn't pregnant, I am....
BEK!!!! She lives! I'm so glad you're back and what exciting news! I hope you're feeling well and that the little ones are behaving!!! (Hah, NONE of that stuff really happens during a pregnancy right???)
I am sick, sick, sick with this one. Ugh. The little ones are actually doing great (it doesn't hurt that two are in school and I have a caregiver for the other one......)
YAY for BEK - WE MISS YOU!
... Is Liz Lemon preggers? Just wondering...because he's calling from inside the building.
Ashley, the face is a dead give away.
Kalli, last year when I was 3-4 months pregnant, one of the neighborhood kids said the same thing to me. I said, no, I'm pregnant. He said, No, you're just fat. I said, Just you wait until next year when I have a baby and you'll feel stupid.
Well, it's next year, and he's probably forgotten why he should be feeling totally stupid.
Bek, you deserve your own response.
I am so, so, so happy for you. I know we're supposed to ignore the crazy, but you're in the middle of it and I am positively thrilled for your family. How crazy, crazy, crazy--but in the best way.
Hurray for Bek! What fantastic news!
Ditto on the congrats to bek. Feel better!
much love,
CW
The actress who plays Scully on X files was pregnant. She got abducted by Aliens to hide it.
Bek/Julian—HURRAH! HURRAH! HURRAH! I'm so glad you're one of the statitstics! Congratulations! Prayers are on their way from my house! Hope you feel better soon.
You too Geo... I hope you are feeling well. I was REALLY excited to for you (and didn't manage to get over to your blog yet to comment....)
I wonder if we are due around the same time.....
Bek! I am thrilled for you! I miss you and am glad to hear such fantastic news. Feel better.
Geo, congrats to you, too!
